How much did you pay for neutering at regular vets?

I just wanted to know if this was normal price for these things.

The estimate to neuter my med sized 6 month old dog is $550.

And estimate to pull my other dogs impacted baby canine tooth is $350-400 (nothing else being done for her just the tooth)

do those prices sound normal range and how much did you pay at your regular vet (not shelter) thank you

How much did you pay for neutering at regular vets?
Those prices are VERY expensive. Neutering at our hospital goes by weight of the dog (more the dog weighs, more anesthetic needed!). To neuter a 100+ pound dog it would not cost $550. That is crazy talk!!!

To pull residing baby teeth we charge NOTHING since the owner is already paying for the anesthetic from the neuter.

Suppose you wanted the residing teeth pulled and your dog was not getting neutered. It would cost $180 total (hospital stay, pre-anesthetic, gas anesthesia, meds, etc.).

ADD: First of all your dog does NOT need a Rimadyl pain pack post neutering. And he does NOT need fluids... he is only 6 months old for crying out loud!!!! I would decline both if I were you.

ADD2: I think these charges are BOGUS: $30 for surgical room and prep fee, $55 for nursing care, and $50 for aneth monitoring. Are you flippin kidding me?? They are charging you for the sx room? That is insane! Unless it is an emergency sx, this should not be charged. I have never worked for a hospital that charges owners for the sx room. The $55 nurse care is crap. You should not have to pay someone $55 for them to occasionally check on your dog in the back. And the $50 for anesthetic "monitoring" is the biggest load of **** I have ever heard of! My goodness!!
Reply:I'm not sure where you're located, but when we had our male chihuahua mix neutered about 2 1/2 years ago, it was about $130, and that included pain meds.

However a lot of humane societies have low cost spay/neuter. The one around here is a flat fee of $50
Reply:That sounds high to fix a dog. I would shop around.

Petsmart has animal clinics in their stores and they offer great insurance plans (for very reasonable rates) and some of the packages include the alteration. I bring all of my pets there and they all have coverage.

What is nice is they give you a side by side comparison to how much you saved vs. not having the insurance.
Reply:Geez. I live in Canada. Cost me $195.00 for my 27lbs male.
Reply:That's a crazy amount of money. It should be in the neighborhood of $75-$125 depending on whether the procedure is done with a laser or scalpel and another $10-$15 for pain meds.

I have never had to have dental work done on my dogs so I can't comment on that one.
Reply:WOW Where do you live.

The MOST Ive heard here is $350 out in peach grove. I thought that was insane.

Do remember they add lots to it. An animal does not need on the pain meds they offer. Its a pill popping world and animals are no different. In actuallity the dog should feel it so he does calm down a bit to help recovery.

I would certainly have the tooth and the neuter all at once and make sure they are not charging you twice for anesthesia.

Last dog I got done privately was an akita - I slept with the backyard breeder to spay his *****. - She was 80 lbs and just straight no laser no pain was 85$.

Cost of a microchip through petfinders rescues is no more than $10.00. We microchip and register every dog adopted. OVER 1130 in 2007
Reply:Are you going to an emerge clinic because the are very expensive. As for a regular vet hospital that is steep price. A younger female pup that is healthy and at that age has not gone into heat is not that much and a male is cheaper. Really $200 for a large breed maybe an extra $100 for blood work. As for a tooth pull the price could be around the same as a neuter because it's still a sedation.
Reply:wow.. waaaay too much! My 70lb boxer was only $225 to neuter. Maybe you should check out another vet. :) Good luck!
Reply:thats CRAZY...my female was spayed for 60$ and they done a great job (but it was really about 400$ b/c she had to have a c-section and we got her spayed right after they got the puppies out)
Reply:Wow! That's way too much. Check around with other Vet.

Neutering for a male dog runs between $95-$150 (more or less, depending).

They will pull the deciduous (baby) teeth while under anesthesia for the neuter so no additional anesthesia fee should apply. The charge for pulling the deciduous teeth usually run $15-$35 per tooth.

You can also apply for a reduced fee neuter certificate. Check with your local animal control. That may alter the price a bit for the puppy teeth. For example, if a person comes in to have multiple procedures done, they combine the anesthesia fee. However, if they are using a reduced fee certificate, sometimes the discount for anesthesia no longer applies.
Reply:Wow!!! Way to get robbed!

I spent $30 on my male chi's neutering.

As to the tooth, I haven't had to deal with that, but my ex's chow/samoyed mix once got in a dog fight and lost. I had to run him in, he had swelling here and there, blood everywhere, and a canine tooth that was knocked loose and hanging by a piece of his gums. We rushed to the vet, as I held that big idiot in my lap, trying not to cry or make him anymore nervous than he needed to be. My vet, gave him a shot to knock him out, pulled the tooth, cleaned up his wounds, also gave him his rabies shot, and charged me a whopping $15!

Now this was back in '98, but the dear man is still in business, and still my favorite vet. He sincerely loves animals and isn't in it for the money.

When my male chi suffered back pain, after I accidently kicked him last year, I called around frantic because the poor dear couldn't walk, trying to find someone that would take him and accept payments. The city vet wanted $250 up front, and gave a long list of scary possible procedures and whatnots. My vet assured me, if the bill went over $50 he'd take payments, but not to worry. I took him in, he checked him over, quickly diagnosed the problem, gave him a cortisone shot for his back, sent home some prednisone for him, and sent me on my way a grand total of $12 poorer!

You need to find a different vet!
Reply:damn!!! that's to much my vet charges around 300 for a 6 month old dog to get him neutered.

(but actually i got my dog neutered for free at da Anti Cruelty Society a rescue organization here in chicago )
