What is the best method? Oral Surgery?

Hi, I've had bad teeth all my life. They are not horrible but pretty bad. For as long as I can remember i have had two teeth--I think called "canines" in the top front of my mouth that stick out. If i don't smile and try to talk without opening my mouth wide, it's hard to notice.

I've known that i've needed braces all my life but I've never gotten them. It was a combination of me having many more important things to worry about and just being scared.

Anyway, here I am, 18 and the last thing i want to do is walk around with a hunk of metal in my mouth. Does anybody have any suggestions? Should I get oral surgery to fix this problem? How much would something like this cost? Would they have to put in fake teeth and how long do those last?

Can orthodontists use invisalign on every patient or just the ones that have slight abnormalities? I know there is a doctor in New York that tries his best with severe cases. Should I go to him?

Oral surgery is to be considered as the last option for your age. Getting braces put is the best option. You can go for ceramic (white colored) braces if you are conscious about the metallic outlook of the braces. Invisalign can be used for minor corrections.

The problem with oral surgery is that after getting your teeth removed you will either have to go for fixed teeth or implants. Fixed teeth requires grinding of the adjacent teeth to place the caps (crowns) while implants require a period of a minimum two months to be completely useful. There are a lot of pros and cons about implants.

I would advise you to visit a good orthodontist and get the required treatment. Believe me you will be happy with the results.
Reply:You just need to go to the dentist and tell them what you are hoping for. They can tell you what they can do to fix your teeth. You would be amazed at what they can do these days to fix your teeth and a good dentist will do everything to save your teeth. Pulling teeth is the absolute last resort.
