Braces next month, Just a few questions..?
well i had braces when i was 13, i am 14 and hav ehad them of rof almost half a year... you can get them off quick if you do everything the ortho. says...

P.S. you might want to put a toothbrush in your locker for after lunch... it really helps!!!
Reply:Well i have had braces on for 2 years and they are com,ing off soon. It varies greatly because peoples teeth move at different rates. My mate was told she had to have one for 2 years and she only had it on 3 months! So don't worry. Just stock up on pain relief!!!

P.S. They are a great fashion accessory cos you can pick the colours.
Reply:I had braces for a long time when I was younger, at least 2 or 3 years.... thats not to big of a job they have to do but somewhat and it will be somewhat painful, take aleve for the pain it will help better then anything else... dont use wax or your lips will never get used to them, just deal witht he cuttin of the inner lips for a few days and your mouth will become tuff and be able to deal with them with no cuts... youll do great and just keep you chin up, you might get called names just smile and nod because more then likely those kids need them ont here teeth and are just not cool enough to get them lol
Reply:well my teeth were VERY BAD. they were so messed up. i got my braces when i was twelve and got them taken off when i was 14, it was not even a full 2 years. from what you said, your teeth dont sound like they are as bad as mine were so you probably wont have them long as long as you do what your dentist says and see him every month. and like they say, travel with that toothbrush because you will need it after EVERY meal or bite off food.
Reply:Usually braces need to stay on for 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 years but this is an average and it sounds like your teeth are not in too bad of shape so maybe about 1-1/2 years (They'll be of before you turn 18!)

A few words of advice: Ask your parents to get you a Water Pik to keep your braces and your teeth clean. Tiny particals of food get stuck beween the wires and under the braces. If it is left there for any length of time it causes, decay of your teeth, inflamation of your gums, bad breath, not to mention it looks gross. You can get one at Wal Mart for around $50 dollars and believe me it will be worth every penny. They even make a small cordless one that you can take with you.

Also, ask your Orthadontist to give you some Wax to cover any sharp wires that may cause you pain until you get used to them.

Occasionally you may have some discomfort when the braces are tightened (usually every month or so) It helps to take a dose of Motrin or Tylenol an hour or so before your appointment. Ask your parents about this before taking anything and they can follow up with your Orthadontinst if they have any questions or concerns.

Lastly, don't let anyone tease you about the braces. Your parents really care about you to put out the money and the time and effort to have your teeth straightened. And Baby, You will have a million dollar smile when it's over. Good Luck!
Reply:The orthodontist should have gone over how long they will be on for, but I think they will only have to be on for 6 months. This sounds like a very small job and shouldn't take very long. Some other things you should know: don't get white or clear colors for your braces! They will get stained and look like you have food in your teeth. Take plenty of advil when you first get them on, and wear chapstick! Good Luck!
Reply:i got braces when i was 19. im 21 and still wearing them so to me youre getting them early. The duration time of having them depends entirely on how bad your teeth are...overbite, underbite, crosses teeth, gapped teeth, etc. Mine were gapped in the event that yours are too and i was told 18-24 months. You can shorten your time by flossing religiously and gently brushing your gums. Good luck! Have fun with your braces!!
