Complication of lip bite situation, anyone with similar problem...?

I bit my lip (I have slightly oversized canine teeth) and I now have a protruding white scar/blister (not sure exactly what to call it) that isn't going away. I think it may have been complicated because after the initial bite it got swollen and it, consequently got bitten a couple more times (ouch!!), and I suspect it was infected. So now that I have this white thing I am wondering if it will ever go away, or I will need surgery to get rid of it. So, has anyone had a similar "thing" in their mouth, and what happened eventually?

You have an apthous ulcer, related to trauma. If it is inside your mouth, try doing warm salt water rinses to speed the healing process. It should go away on it's own. If a sore in your mouth does not go away on it's own within two weeks see your dentist or medical doctor. Good luck!
Reply:My ex-spouse used to get mouth ulcers whenever he bit his lip or cheek accidentally. It's just an over-response by your immune system to injury. It will go away in a few days. If it was really infected, it would have been tender, and hot to the touch. Just leave it be, and it will disappear.
Reply:Congratulations, sounds like you're experiencing a canker sore!

Canker sores can occur when the sensitive tissues in the mouth undergo some sort of trauma, or are exposed to a substance they dislike. For the sake of complicating things further, they can also appear for no apparent reason, and some people are more prone to them than others.

I, for example, found myself getting them more often whenever I switched toothpastes. Now I stick with the same toothpaste and only have a small canker sore maybe a couple times a year.

Just consider yourself lucky you don't experience them regularly.

Don't worry, it will go away eventually. Give it a week or so to fully heal, but it does depend on the size of the sore. Do your best to not eat foods that irritate it (anything acidic like tomatoes or lemon juice), and be very careful when chewing to not bite it again.
