Put your thumb and forefinger on either side of your upper lip...?

just below your nostrils. Now rub them back and forth. Do you feel the roots of your canine teeth? Notice how much larger and deeper they are than the rest of your roots? Can you guess why that is?

In carnivorous mammals, the canine teeth are used for slashing and tearing meat. There would be a lot of leverage on a long canine tooth if it was tearing through tough raw meat. So the root would need to be deeper in order to stand that leverage.

In humans, we tend to cook our meat until it's nice and tender, and our canine teeth are pretty short. So we don't need to use them for slashing and tearing. That's what our table knife is for!
Reply:This is because canine tooth is positioned in the mouth in such manner that it will enable us to break hard food. It is deeper because it needs to be strong enough to handle the pressure of hard food. Think of it like a skyscraper/building foundation.
Reply:it just is.

i got it right, didnt i? lol
Reply:Perhaps it is not that they are larger and deeper, but that they protrude outward more so than the other teeth, giving the illusion that they are larger.
