What could it be?!?

Okay, if I were to tell you that I saw something weird the other night...would you help me identify it? What ever it was was bigger than a wolf but smaller than a bear. It was pitch black with red eyes and very bulky. It had a very wolfish feeling to it, but it was too big to be any kind of wolf. Its front shoulders were slightly higher than the rest of the body, and it snarled in a very dog like way. It had giant canine teeth, and the muzzle was a good 2 inches in diameter. It had very good hearing. It heard me say "what the..." in a very very low whisper..lower than I myself could hear, yet it still looked up at me. It smelled of blood, and had a dreadful, deathy feeling to it. It moved very fast and jumped a 5 foot fence with a good 3 feet of clearing.


What the heck could this animal have been?! Any answers?

Reply:If this is a dream, you, my friend, have just created a new species. If not, i kind of find it hard to beleive that it could here you whisper when you couldn't but, it must have just been your mind. Saw some animal and your mind played it up

Reply:A Labrador with it's eyes being reflected. Lights reflect off their eyes so they can see in the dark better, and it was probably the angle you looked at it at that made them seem red. It's like when you look at a cat's eyes, and they go from yellow to white to red to blue and back to yellow.
Reply:Not that they're real but since you posted it in folklore/mythology, sounds like a lycanthrope... aka werewolf...
Reply:Might have been a Wolverine. The physical description you give doesn't quite match up in all respects but it WAS dark. Wolverines don't live in all parts of the US, though. You don't mention where you were at the time.
Reply:Well, it was just a huge *** dog that had light reflecting off it's eyes that you looked at on a certain angle to make it look big like it was, plus it was during night. But I have no idea on how it pulled off that jump, could just be you were tired or something like that though.
Reply:If you would like an honest opinion, i would say that it was a lycanthrope, or werewolf, many people do not believe in these creatures, but why is knowledge of them so widespread, it is not just good storytelling. there are many things that cannot be explained by science, and this is one such case, did you notice any tracks left, or any hair on the fence where it jumped?

Reply:Probably some sort of wolf that reeked of blood because it had just finished eating another animal.
