A tooth that is removed easily, with just an elevator and forceps and a little wiggling is called a simple extraction. This sounds like what you had.

A surgical extraction is when either the tooth needs to be cut into pieces using the drill and then the pieces are removed, or when the gums need to be flapped and moved out of the way and maybe even some bone needed to be removed again with the drill.

Then there are categories for impacted teeth such as partial bony or complete bony extractions.

Sounds like you may have been charged for a more difficult extraction than you had and you may want to talk to the dentist or the receptionist about it.
Reply:that is when they actually have to cut the tooth out of the gum

they do this usually when the tooth is empacted(grown in wrong.....like with wisdom teeth)

usually just to pull a tooth i think it costs like $ 100-$ 150

but i guess it depends on the dentist that does it....
Reply:Oral surgeons cost more because their skills, tools, and equipment are specialized for difficult procedures. Possibly it seemed easy because your surgeon was very skilled at handling a job that might have been a mess at a general dental office.

More concerned with your report of no bleeding after the extraction. That could indicate a dry socket and you may have to get back to the dentist for packing of the socket.

If you have questions about the fee, you have every right to ask the surgeon to explain the procedure. Just remember to be civil and get his explanation before forming any final judgement or getting accusatory.

If his receptionist blows you off with "that's just our regular fee," don't settle for that. You are dealing with a professional and deserve a reasonable answer to a reasonable question.
Reply:My idea for you is to get a very inexpensive dental plan. That way if you need any more dental work throughout the year, you will be covered. I have this plan and it also covers you for dental, vision, chiropractic, and prescription for under $20.00 per month. Go to urdentalmed.com
Reply:my dentist does it for free!
