I need advice if i should extract my "baby" canines?

i still have milk teeth for both my canines. xray shows that there are no more permanent teeth that would replace it so im stuck with these "baby" canines. im conscious about them because they are small compared to my other teeth.





im planning to get braces to correct my diastema 2 yrs from now. im thinking if i could just extract them then have the spaces closed by braces. is this the best thing to do? can you pls give me advice? i really need help deciding..

if i did extract it and have it closed, would it be obvious that i have no canines? im doing this primarily for aesthetic reasons..

If you want them extracted, go to a professional to get them done because anything could happen.

Reply:I've seen this done with acceptable results. You _might_ want to have the inside cusp of the premolars shortened a bit once it is all done so it is not so visible - if it is visible.





Be sure to have a panoramic x-ray (if you have not already), because regular x-rays may have missed the canines if they are impacted high up in your maxilla.

Reply:While both doctors give make great points, aesthetically you might want to also consider keeping your canines and having veneers put on them to make them fit your other teeth. Your canines are what give your face structure, when extracted like for dentures your cheeks sink in and give instant jowl's. you can also get porcelain crowns because your baby teeth may not be as strong as the adult teeth. I feel you should keep them though cuz people will notice your teeth are off, or your missing some. you need all the chompers you got trust me.
Reply:First you have to make sure that you REALLY don't have permanent canines. IF you don't, your options are:





1- keep baby canines


2- extract baby canines and close the space by the premolars


3- option 2 plus modifying the premolar to look more like a canine


4- extract baby canines and fill the space using implants with crowns "this is more expensive of course"
